I've been thinking about doing a post like this all weekend. While I paid close attention to the quake in Haiti and New Zealand, the big one that hit Japan recently hit rather close to home. Let's just say that I've been on edge just a bit.

I have a number of good friends that live in Japan and they're going through some really hard times. While Japan is a very modern country, it doesn't lessen the devastation that has occurred. First there's the earth quakes and after shocks, then multiple tsunamis and lastly nuclear power plant malfunctions. Despite all of that, the good people of Japan are holding it together.

I'm glad that I've heard from all of my friends and that I know they are currently safe. Unfortunately there are many that are not as lucky as I am and they can use all of the positive thoughts we can muster. If you have the ability to donate, please do! The Red Cross is probably one of the best places to do that.

There's one last thing I'd like to point out and I hope everyone will keep this in mind. This catastrophe is not going to go away over night. It'll take moths or years for things to get back to normal. People have a tendency to forget about things as soon as the media stops reporting on it. New Zealand and Haiti are still working on recovering from their own ordeals. It's not over for them by a long shot. So, keep those people in your thoughts as well.

We're all trying to make it on this little planet of ours and no one is more important than anyone else. I see too many people who like to point their finger and blame people for this and that. Sometimes it's better to extend all of those fingers and give someone else a helping hand. Good deeds like that really do matter.
