The cannon in the bottom panel is derived from an old English firearm I saw in a history book. The buildings and foliage are heavily indebted to Franklin Booth's linework.
I've really enjoyed using the illustration styles of early 20th century commercial artwork in these comics. However, one drawback is that it's rather difficult to convey movement with this approach. Naturally, that's a tough barrier for a medium as sequencially illustrated as comics.
I hope that the images in these panels have an animated feel to them while still reflecting the pen & ink artists I've studied so closely. I'll eventually hash out a workable compromise as I keep working.
