'Madness' is what happens when vampires get brain dead and enter in 'monster mode'. Their minds don't work anymore, but their bodies can't die, so they start to hunt for blood every night and all those 'monstrous vampire' things. There's a big chance that a newly created vampire will be mad at turning, or will turn mad in the first week. If not, it's only a matter of time to madness to catch up with them. Half-vampires degenerate earlier than full-fledged vampires, due to the fact that they don't regenerate their bodies as easily and as quickly.
