In this page I went full animal-nerd and explained that Charby's obnoxious cyclist outfit color pattern is a display of aposematic coloration,which is brightly colored or patterned fur, scale or feathers that send a message of warning and threat to potential predators. Skunks express this with their stripes, and insects with eye spots, poison frogs display the threat of their poison with bright colors and non-poisonous animals wear this disguise to fool other predators into thinking they are!
But it didn't work obviously! And while Charby may be larger here, his strength doesn't scale with size. He really wasn't expecting the monster to call his bluff! Sure he could probably tear a chunk out of this monster with his teeth, but I think we have established it's too gross to consider!
