Max's order comes in and the roomates stand in awe of its presence.
I spent a while in the concept stage with this particular comic, mostly due to the fact that I couldn't settle on the most ridiculous possible thing Max could order. With this I tried to channel the inventory of those weird catalogues you tend to get in the mail. The ones filled with fart machines, dog shoes, and the entire "Bob" line. If you don't know what these things are…consider yourself lucky. If you have seen them, then you've probably wondered who'd order such crap. Well, there's your answer.
Two things worth mentioning here, one is I've been pusing more to make the character's properly contrast eachother as they should. Mako regained some of his definition from his earlier concept sketches and is standard 1 layer shading persists, and Cameron has become entirely defined by consistent non weighted lines which is par usual for modern animation. Max is the only one left somewhat unchanged, still be drawn with pressure strokes. As I go one I will be striving to stronger capture each characters parent design style. Its surprisingly difficult, not in executing a style, but feeling like you've drawn properly. What I mean is I feel like it's not well drawn because it's not my usual asthetic, so It affects my judgement. I'm working to overcome it…
The second thing is some of the more keen eyed of you might pick up the reference on Camerons shirt being a Gorillaz reference. Those of you not in the know, Gorillaz is a band that is erm…fictional for lack of a better word. The music is made by musicians and an actual band, but the bands image was a cartoon. The characters, the world, all cartoon. The first of its kind, at least as far as I know. Initially when I started CU I wanted to include Gorillaz actually being Camerons favorite band and real in this world for obvious reasons. But eventually when I made the conscious desicion to make every character a reference to specific characters and not just those characters, I obviously couldn't use Gorillaz.
