I'm not a huge fan of toilet humor, but I understand its comedic value. It's one of those timeless comedic tools, something that people will always find funny. The reason for that is because it will always be relateable, people have always had to make waste, and until the day we ascend into seintient cloud beings we will continue to make bodily waste. You make a joke about a show/movie/popstar/celebrity and chances are nobody will get it a century from now, but a poop joke will always be relevent. The same goes for physical comedy, people getting hit, tumbling, smashed with an anvil, ect.
I remember reading about John K. tearing into Animanics based on what he saw from commercials and not the actual show itself. He said something along the lines of the old vaudvillian jokes were played out and old or something to that effect. I was growing up around this time, watching looney toons and Animanics/Tiny toons along side eachother and enjoyed them both. The vaudvillian cartoon hyjinks were funny regardless of what show, essentially because those jokes don't get old. Sure it may be easy cartoon comedy, but smashing a character with an anvil, or exploding thier face will always get laughs. I certainly did. Hmm…those were fun times looking back, lots of warm memories.
