Interesting fact: Yeast are unicellular fungi living on surfaces rich in simple sugars. They were discovered on and isolated from… grape peels, on which they form a characteristing white deposit. Their fermentating properties made them invaluable in many branches of food industry - such as the production of wine, beer, kefir and bread.
