Interesting fact: The traditional method of detecting cracks in eggshells was based on accoustic analysis - that is, knocking two eggs together. A cracked egg makes a slightly different sound than an intact one. Unfortunately, that method isn't failproof, because it doesn't help detect micro-cracks - which, while they are invisible to the eye, even in sharp light, might expand during transportation, leading to contamination with salmonella etc. So a new method was developed. An egg is placed in a closed container and exposed to hypotension. That makes the micro-cracks grow and become visible.
