Interesting fact: What do pierogi have in common with pirates? The Great Pierogi Race - a promotional event that takes place between innings during the Pittsburg Pirates baseball games since 1999. Four pierogi-shaped mascots take part: Cheese Chester, Oliver Onion, Sauerkraut Saul and Jalapeno Hannah. They are sometimes chased or otherwise distracted by the Pirate Parrot, the Pirates' original mascot from 1979.
