Interesting fact: Water is an environment much more suited for voice communication - not just because of the limited range of visibility. Water transmits sounds up to four times faster than air - at 1493 meters per seconds in sweet water and 1533 meters per second in saltater. The sea's inhabitants can be real loud, too. The oyster toadfish can go up to 100 decibels.
