Author notes
Barb: hands are one of my favorite art subjects! Aside from eyes, hands are by far the most expressive part of a character. If drawn well, they can show a great range of emotion, power and character just on their own. They are also incredibly difficult to draw!! About drawing and looking at hands all the time, this does get tough though when you need the hand you are drawing to draw with! :) It takes endless practice to draw hands well. I'm still trying to get there and I have been drawing hands for a REAAAALLLY long time. One thing to be aware of when drawing one's own hands is that not everyone has the same kind of hands- they vary widely in shape and look and change a great deal as someone ages. My own hands are really odd actually- I have very long, narrow palms and tapered fingers which look absolutely ridiculous in a fist. Therefore, when I have to draw a big tough character- say Ollie- whose hands are more like paws, I need to modify my own hands quite a bit if I use them as a reference. ———————— Eunice: Woohoo!
