In lieu of a comic this weekend, I thought it more appropriate we all take the time today to honor the many brave men who gave their lives and fought for liberty on this day 66 years ago … the many men of Omaha beach in Normandy who never made it to the cliffs … never made it to the end … indeed, never reached the sands of France themselves. Those men who fought for justice, who fought for freedom, who fought to one day rid the world of tyrannical dictators and their bloodthirsty henchmen.

And not just the Americans of Omaha beach … Canadians who fought with us. British … Australians … Russians … nations from around the globe and, yes, even the enemy who fell that bloody day, guilty of no other crime than patriotism and - almost universally - betrayed by their leaders into crimes they didn't commit.

Of them should we always remember not only what was lost … but also what was gained.

- June 6, 1944 … "D-Day".
