"Kirk" is another word for "church". I believe it's Scottish.

Brief language lesson:
Scottish is strongly influenced by the Vikings, who came to Scotland. (I live in Sweden, so I pretty much talk the same language as the Vikings did. I even live in Gothenburg, famous for its special 'R'-sound, just like Scottish, and indeed, from Gothenburg its just open sea all the way to the shores of Scotland.)
"I felt something" can in Scottish be "I kennt something" (maybe not in modern day, all Scottish I’ve read is from medieval ballads. I hope no Scotsman is reading this!). Now compare "felt", and then "kennt", to the Swedish word: "kände" ('ä' is pronounced sort of like 'ae').
This leads me to believe that "kirk" is Scottish, seeing that the Swedish word for "church" is "kyrka". That, and that I found the word in a videogame set in Scotland!
