I've been doing free face painting at Animzement for a long time now. Sometimes I wrangle an "official" table spot out of some other volunteer work I'm doing at the same time (like running a video room) but other times I just camp out in some open spot with enough flat space to set up. This year I snagged a spot by the water coolers on the top floor. It was good spot to be seen, but it meant I couldn't sit down and work at the same time… and, invariably, the moment I tried to sit down was the moment I'd be called upon to work again. Of course, it only worked when I didn't do it on purpose. Deliberately sitting down to attract a crowd doesn't do squat. Quit trying to screw around with Murphy's Law, punk.
