18 - Theme Park
ShriekingMagpie onContext: Despite the failure of Euro Disney, Disney still wanted to capitalize on the success of their films and decided to expand their theme parks to Hong Kong. Although Hong Kong mostly welcomed the business as there were some economic issues during this time, the construction of Hong Kong Disney is plagued by controversies, such as alleged animal abuse, environmental concerns, suspected discrimination from American staff when working with the local staff, etc. My favorite controversy to come from Hong Kong Disneyland is the dredging up of WW2 era bombs left over by Britain bombing during Japanese occupation of Hong Kong… I guess even during that time, Britain wanted to prevent the horror that is American commercialization… (*ノωノ)
