Hit a Nerve?

Today's TV trope is "kick the dog." In case it isn't clear Dart was about to hit Madeline but decided not to.

@usedbooks: Often times I'll write or draw stream of conscious just because I'm not sure of what to put in. Then I'll like the spur of the moment sort of feel because it seems more natural and not forced. It's neat how sometimes the first idea really can be the best idea.
It's also interesting that characters can develop their own identities in ways that you didn't intend. The best thing I think is to just roll with it! I gather this must happen to you quite a bit. The characters in "Used Books" are very well thought out and I would argue that they seem more real than the ones in "Cricket's Creature."
@amanda:Y'know, we work about the same way as far as dialogue goes. That being said I must be doing something right! I like background when it's handled with minimal exposition, I wanted to hint that maybe Dart wasn't always manipulitive and emotionaly dead. Maybe something happened to make him like that.
Creature's one of my favorite characters too. For a character that's rather simple in design and is completely mute he's really hard to write and draw for!
@Peipei: Higgins can't see past his own arrogance sometimes. He's so convinced that he's right that he thinks that any idea to the contrary is ridiculous.
@Trevor: I got used to working in black and white because I also do minicomics. Grey tones tend to photocopy poorly so I've gotten used to using hatching to inticate them. Actual greys do make things easier if you work digitaly, but I am at heart a minicomic artist so that's how my webcomics look.
@Warped: I guess I understand– sometimes allowing the characters developing the story makes it better that whatever plan you might have had for it? Is that what you meant? I'm actually pretty dense sometimes!
So your favorite character is Madeline? Probably won't like today's page then…
@JPR: You know, I can't think of anything more flattering than the fact that somebody went back and read the archives. So thank you, and it's great to have new readers as well!
