Even though it might not seem like I do I think about language a lot. That being said I wasn't sure how to make Ollie refer to his mother. Cricket and Dee both refer to their's as "mum," which is actually sort of odd nobody seems to use any other British English expession for anything else. I've actually avoided using British English specifically because I know I'll get them wrong and my readers would definitely notice. I guess it sort of fits since I didn't really wanted it to be crystal clear which country this is supposed to be. So what do you guys out in reader land think? What country does this seem like to you?
————— replies: @usedbooks: I think the only reason why Cricket trusts Dart even a little is because he's doesn't seem explicitly out to get her. As for Madeline… I'm not sure why she does. Admitedly I like that doorknob too. I've noticed that older houses will sometimes have the keyhole on top instead of on the bottom and I think it looks really neat, I'm not sure how well it reads but it's supposed to have a swiveling cover for the keyhole too. @ulthor: They haven't had that much luck in the past but it's worth a shot. @Peipei: If Cricket didn't have her Gramma to worry about she'd be gone already. The main roadblock is that while Cricket is very adaptable and can probably live anywhere the same can't be said about her ninety year-old blind grandmother. @magickmaker: I don't think she does. @amanda: I guess I thought she looked tall because her jacket makes her body look longer. I liked that panel too, especially when I was drawing it. I like the old-fashioned doorknob and the fact that the panel is borderless. There's some details that don't come through in the scan though. @Steely Gaze: Trusting them's probably not the smartest thing in the world. Unfortunately Cricket and Creature don't understand their situation fully and make dumb choices because of it. @Zephyrion: You bet! @Warped: Yer not gonna put it on? What bugged me is that even though there wasn't much frame of reference in that panel she *seemed* taller if that makes sense. Maybe I'm just losing my mind. @Trevor: Thanks! how's the new Temple story comin'? @D0m: Hey! I remember you! And I have read Coraline by the way, it's actually one of my favorite books.
