#56 Fruit

Fruit costs a ton in Japan. A TON. I'm talkin' like $30 US for a watermelon. And it's not near as big as you're used to in America.

On the brighter side, when you DO buy fruit in Japan, it's PERFECT. No scars, or anything. The apples and pears and stuff actually have individual styrofoam jackets. The grapes are humongous! They actually peel them before they eat them. Somebody told me that grapes in Japan have actually been given steroids to grow that big.

My favorite fruit in Japan is the nashi. In other countries it's known as the Asian pear. It's actually an apple-pear hybrid.
