This whole time I've been expecting people to ask why Brooke never told Alec about this story.  I'll bet some of you wondered why, but until Gillsing mentioned it in the comments last week, nobody has ever brought it up.  Did you guys wonder?
 
It sort of ties in with that quote about people meeting their fate on the road they take to avoid it.  Brooke didn't know the exact details of Alec's death, but she wasn't going to risk making the same mistake her father did.  So what we got was a seemingly dependent and irrational Brooke, just trying keep Alec alive without telling him.
