I'll admit the story is a bit predictable… especially when it's posted gradually over several weeks and you have time to think about it.  It was probably a bit less so when you're reading it in a book over the course of a few minutes.  It's still not particularly good writing.  But the title makes sense now, right?
 
Lucky for the bullies, the spell only lasts a few hours.
