Chapter 1, Page 6 - Into the City

Our second move was rather tense. It begins with a small prologue:
We were out and about looking at houses with our realtor and his three year old daughter, and were on our way to the next house when a fire ant from the last house bit him on the neck. We were all weirded out by this, but kept on to the next house, thinking nothing of it.
As we were pulling up to it, he said he was starting to feel a little odd. We get out and walk up to the door and he says he needs to go sit down a moment. On his way there, he starts to dial 911. He gets them and immediately goes into telling the operator that he has been bitten by an ant and is finding out that he has become allergic to them. He tells them where we are, and continues to keep them updated on his situation until he tells them he is going to hand the phone to me and pass out.
I continue with telling them his situation updates, continuing to confirm the address, telling them that yes, the sirens are getting closer, etc. I'd like to think I was staying level and clear-headed the entire time, but that they kept switching topics on me.
My wife, sensing that things were not going so great, did a fantastic job at keeping the wee one occupied. She didn't start to panic until they started putting him the ambulance once they arrived, because her parents told her that week that they only put you in one if you are very badly hurt.
