So things were going good, minus that no one knew when the closing would actually be (but I'm sure that anyone watching the news lately can imagine the effect the faltering economy had on our will to survive that last month of limbo), and it was rather…difficult… to pinpoint anything at all.

Needless to say, there was no time to request off for the final closing date.
So.
Closing on the house and moving in, took place with me having to work at 4am the preceding and following days (whereas Red was working until nearly midnight).
Oh - and there was no power for… a week, was it? We paid extra to get the water hooked up stat, but it proclaimed the lack of a heater marvelously when we showered.

On the third day, there was an itty-bitty rainstorm that brought a large branch down over the driveway. It didn't fall all the way though - it rested on the large branch under it. Either way, it became impassable.
Using a rope ingeniously, I used my wit (read: brute strength) and a hatchet to ease (blatant lie) the branch out of the tree. We are forever indebted to the generosity of our neighbors for their assistance, advice, and borrowed tools.

That was the beginning of August, and we are almost done processing that thing. We need to bring down several more branches to make the tree safer, and it seems like that will go much easier and faster than the first surprise branch. (Three cheers for a manual chainsaw, a ladder, and a draw knife.)

Whee, Adventure!
