Well darn, no drawn blood.
…yet.

Just in case you're squinting at the quiet voices in the back of the room, they are speaking in their own language, hence the . This is for the benefit of the reader: Viktor cannot understand them half so well as I permit you to. I do occasionally un-italicize a word that would not translate directly, even when the speech is in brackets.
In this case there are several: One dark elf girl calls another Dalninil, or "sister", but it has overtones of subservience as well as blood-relation, and may or may not be affectionate, depending on the (rather complex) context.
The other responds, naming her Lothaurl, that is, "littlest one". The eldest elf girl also refers to the VlosRah, which literally means Blood-Hand. This could be a reference to Thalia and the strange red gloves she has always worn until now, when we see her in Viktor's memory without them.
These girls are very young for elves, nau?

As for the art… you see, I have this small trouble.
I like to fill my paintings.

This little trouble was made worse when I was in university, for the professors are always and forever harping against Dead Space - if you paint representational things. Break the frame here, stretch there: overwhelm the viewer with the intimacy of the view.

This makes lovely, full pages with lush backgrounds. The comics/graphic novels I appreciate most make full use of the space int he frames… but also use that Dead Space with a sure hand.
This is but one skill I ache to attain. As you can see… a lot of stuff I spent time painting gets covered with text bubbles.

Le sigh.

Thanks for reading - see you next page as the plot thickens!
