A hole in the world unleashes raw Chaos into a forest, warping the wildlife.

With the barriers twixt the realms grown weak, holes appear in the natural nadirs therein. These holes start to appear at places like the intersections of Leylines*, the sites where great magical discharges or momentous events occurred, as well as some more innocuous places for no readily discernible reason. The holes in these places are the worst, because no-one knows where to look for them, so before you know it you can have a mutant army knocking down your town because of a Chaos-rift in a forest.

*a series of theorised links between monuments and landscapes, thought by some to be paths trod by ancient peoples, "appropriated" by new age myth and popular culture to be hidden currents of psychic, spiritual, or magical energy.
Such they are in my world.
