J the Great (one of the people who reads the comic on the Moogle Cavern) makes his first appearence in the new comic in panels 2 and 3 (in the portrait).

Eggman's robot in the last panel is actually based off of the Sonic 2 final boss, only it has new paint job according to Eggman's current style.
