Just as Deadflie wished… Saturno lectures us on demon life like old times.

izael asks, "As was determined far back in the early chapters when Saturno figured out how melanin worked in the human body to shield from the sun, Saturno and the other demons must have some instinctual ability to determine substances or compositions of cells and chemicals and such. What exactly is this ability and how does it work? Also, to what extent does it work?"

I kinda quit biology as a major three years ago.. I'll do what I can to explain but as a writer talking to a reader.. This is entertainment and science fiction so it can't be explained perfectly without holes.
Here goes. These creatures have unstable DNA, so their bodies have a tenancy to mutate when they eat other creatures. It also corresponds to their weakness to sunlight. UV and other kinds of radiation breaks up their DNA. To SOME extent when some special demons eat Earth creatures there is a chance of gaining some genetic information from the Earth creature into the eater (will be explained more later).
