Yen-Sid is based slightly on Gendo Ikari from Evangelion, but with a longer beard. The Mouseketeer hat he's wearing with the one ear is an homage to M****y Mouse's estranged brother Mortimer from Berke Breathed comic Outland who was missing an ear.

The cat there is Purrsia in her cat-form. In the regular Purrsia comic, she turns into a cat whenever anyone but her master sees her.
