When I was growing up, the local newspaper took all sorts of liberties with the comic strip page. They'd take all kinds of steps to try to make the strips fit their format. They'd have their internal hack "artists" extend the illustration to make a smaller strip fit into their standard space. They'd cut bits off larger ones. Sometimes the strips would be squashed. In the modern era, we're getting used to the same thing on our television sets too, Who doesn't love the half screen advert at the end of a programme making the closing credits unreadable? That's right… I don't!
