Hmm, I'd originally intended Josh himself to be a jerk as well as an ignorant fool. It's even evident in a few of the earlier strips. Frank's hatred of him (and Sarah and Joe's early agreement) was intended to be justified. In the end, I found it more fun to make Josh more of a well-meaning fool, and Frank, as we know, became a bigger and bigger jerk. How plans can change…

I guess, in continuity, we can say that becoming a superhero brought out the good in him.
