That was my take on the 'Kobayashi maru' scenario.

'Kobayashi maru' was the most memorable opening in "Wrath of Khan". But as the sequence progressed in the Star Trek movie, all of your main characters started to get killed off one after another and you got the feeling this had to be a dream of something…

Hence, therefore and consequently, I thought what if a 'Kobayashi maru' scenario was integrated into the story so the audience ‘knows it's real’ until the very end of the scene?

It solicits an OMG moment! "They are going to die!" to "Phew, that was close." to "Hey, that was a trick (on the audience)". Three emotions all at once.

And that was the end of the second comic book in the series.
