One way of reading the symbol of the mandorla (or vescica pisces or 'eye of god') is as the intersection of two realms or sets, like a Venn diagram. In religious or spiritual iconography, it is often symbolic of the intersecting of the realms of the upper world, or spirit, with the middle world, or the material world. To have an experience of the spiritual realm when one is in or only used to the material realm really… pushes the envelope. (Ouch. I think Jim Woodring, creator of 'Frank' has described finding really embarrasing puns seemingly hidden in his work.) This one took a few tries. The woman appears to be a six armed goddess.
