Fred's first impression of xedia is probably unfavorable.

And that's what the "A" is for.

Edit: We are going to be flashing back between the two plot threads for a bit. And here we are - aside from horrifying the crap out of you - establishing that the rules are very, very, different for this reality.

…not the rape part, of course. But the underlying monstrosities have a harder time concealing their nature from a Dreamwalker's eyes.

PS: I know, Comic Sans MS is so banal. But, that's exactly what I want to convey. Particularly with BP - the one constant with her is that she sounds pretty much the same in all varities. A very *precise* voice that can be immensely gentle or carry an edge like a frozen razor.
