Page description: Nick walks out of the Kitchen, leaving Ashley and Jimmy. Being Captain Obvious is Jimmy's forte', as he points out that he is taking 'the death' pretty hard. When Ashley, in no mood of hysterics of Captain Obvious, threatens Jimmy. Meanwhile, outside, Nick sits, in his trenchcoat, and is alone. Someone though is opening the door and is joining Nick. It is none other than Charlie the Dog.
Writer/Creator Commentary: This page was the one I mentioned to you previous that it about brought me to tears. The last panel does it for me. Hopefully it does it for you too. When Matt was showing me the art for the comic in a Perkins on a lovely Sunday afternoon about a month ago, it was here that I began to realize that, while the story ends with our characters, the first half of the piece is all through, seemingly, Charlie's eyes. While Charlie is technically mute, besides a few barks and what not (again, he can not speak english, or "human") he is a very graceful and important character. I've always loved Charlie, and in a way, I instilled a bit of Snoopy into Charlie in terms of his approach of Nick and Nathan, who would be the bane of whatever is going on, or would be the end-all-be-all, like right at this moment. I always have Charlie be there for the big moments of the characters, because… well… the void of silence can always tell a story better than words, and Charlie being devoid of sound we can understand… it makes it much more meaningful.
I wish I had more to say but alas, I am still taken away from the last panel…
