Critics Acclaim
  
While Monster Soup is downright campy at times with the humor (Samurai fights and drinking Zombie Blood to get a buzz), it certainly has its moments of angst, with the Ghost 'riding' in the dreams of the Vampire being probably the best example.  Creepy and Beautiful at the same time.
 
There is a development of the inner workings of the characters' psychology, subtle interactions of personalities, and many unexpected twists to the story, which makes the comic greater than the material it is spoofing.  
 
There's also the artwork.  Monster Soup is just stunning.
