Interesting and surreal, and it's definitely impressive what hansrickheit manages to accomplish with lineart and stippling alone.

The backgrounds function as almost the third main character in the story, Cochlea and Eustachia constantly interact with it, become part of it, go inside and come out of it. The details aren't just interesting because of their intricacy and the otherworldly creations, in-jokes, monsters, and lascivious imagery hidden within them but also because they foreshadow future story paths, which is a clever way to use backgrounds.
