Our first Due East fan art is a lovely colored pencil drawing of Brielle from usedbooks of Used Books. I like the concept of Brielle looking out the window at a storm, probably remembering the storm that injured her. It's pretty feasible that storms would make her jumpy for quite a while until the mental wounds heal as well as the physical ones. Thanks, usedbooks!
Okay, responses to comments on the previous page:
usedbooks: Nah, I don't think you think too much. You raise legitimate points. Don't worry, you're gonna love the story when we come back! :)
blntmaker: I think what's come out is that the family is pretty sensitive to how things fell apart and everyone wants it to come back together…but in the right way…and they're all trying different methods, some of which are starting to clash. I'm glad you liked panel 2. This was originally just a long page with 6 or 7 panels but when it got to 8 panels, I decided to break it up into two pages and I think it worked much better.
Tantz Aerine: I'm glad you really like the two sisters. They've both been through so much and I think they're just now starting to realize it. The sisterly relationship they had as kids is still there but they're different people now than they were then. That's going to make things very interesting for them both. And yes, the idea in the long run is to try to build a better family…but just like in real life, it's going to take time and something extra special.
kyupol: Work it out? Sure they can – the question to be answered is: how?
RabbitMaster: Thank you very much. :)
SilverWordz: Yup, you have amazing timing! ;) Concerning the marriage, that's true. They'd face the same issues if one or both of the parents were marrying someone else. If anything, this is complicated by the fact that it is their parents remarrying each other.
Interesting observation about Phira but there's another side to it. Even though Phira's not living with Doug anymore, she did for six years. So, right or wrong or somewhere inbetween, she feels emotionally invested in decisions that affect him. Relationships are never simple. It takes time to build them, destroy them and especially to rebuild them. It's do-able, so long as people commit to seeing them through.
JustNoPoint: Point taken (pun intended) concerning dodge and burn. We'll see what happens. :)
Yes, I think it's safe to say that it will be interesting to see where the story picks up following the finale. There's so much story to tell and each character will be impacted in different ways. However, the marriage isn't the only thing we're going to be dealing with in Book Four (and no more spoilers besides that).
Artwise, the eyes are one of the first things I draw. Personally, I've always thought they're the key to each character's personality: what they're feeling, what they're doing or about to do. Someone once said they're the "window to the soul." For a long time, I did draw the eyes first but then later, I learned that could throw off head anatomy so I learned some new techniques. Once I get the pose down, though, the first facial characteristic" I draw is still the eyes. I'm glad you like the new color style. :D
ShinGen: Thanks, I appreciate the compliments. We certainly hope to meet or beat your expectations for Book Four!
