Thought I'd mix things up a bit with this year's Halloween update. I originally got this idea a few years ago while watching Daria.

Daria was a really important show to me at one time (and proved that, at one time, MTV was capable of producing something of merit), and I like to think that it has had a positive impact on my sense of humor and my art (at the very least I remember consciously trying for the "straight line with a dot under it" style of drawing eyes, which slowly evolved into the way I draw eyes today).

I guess my love of the series stems from the fact that it embraced the simple concept of, "Hey, don't be stupid" (a credo I try to live by to this day). It was a commentary on the very society its mother channel embodied, which I thought was nicely mean of the writers.

Daria dressed as Fraja came easily; aside from the fact that they dress strikingly similarly (probably less coincidental than I realize), besides the rage and sex appeal, they're very much both extremely intelligent women just trying to deal with a less than intelligent world. Trent ended up as Azuu, since I like Trent more than Tom and there was romantic tension between him and Daria, so that's gotta count for something. That's also how Jane ended up as Izza, since Fraja doesn't really have a "partner in crime" like Daria did, and I figured Jane would dress like that just to mess with her. And of course, Jake and Helen as Rojo and Carmelia (though I have to admit I still just think of them as "Fraja's Dad" and "Fraja's Mom")

Amy and Elijah were harder to get down (as usual). At first I had planned to have them dressed as Ms. Barch (for the sex obsession) and Mr. O'neill for the nice streak, but then I recalled that, when I had originally created the series, I had consciously modelled a lot of Amy's character after Brittany, and would, for a long time, think of the character whenever I had to write dialogue for Amy. In that sense, it just wouldn't be right to have her as anyone else. And of course, with her as Brittany, Elijah just had to be Kevin
