#1128 Feeding: So Inconsiderate

So, I went to the local EB yesterday, and as luck would have it they had a Wii and a PS3 set up for demo. Apparently since the Wii controller isn't attached to anything (no cables and such) you need to leave some collateral if you want to demo it (a credit card and a driver's license). I just want to say that the Wii controller is tiny. Like, somewhere between a regular and a king-size candy bar in terms of length; maybe a candy bar and a half in width. Anyway, it was cool running the menu screen, to a degree, with the remote, but unfortunately the only game they had for demo was "Excite Truck". Now, I'm not big on racing games in the first place, and especially not anything to do with trucks. The control was pretty different; you actually held the remote sideways and steered like you would with a steering wheel. It made the controls very intuitive. Too intuitive for casual play, I would say. I guess I don't have the subtlety of movement to control a freakin' truck without hitting every other tree.

The PS3 didn't have much better in terms of demo games (one of those generic basketball games that companies love to crap out). The interesting thing about it, though, was that next to the Wii, you could clearly see the cleaner, smoother graphics. The differences between the PS3 and 360 were minute at best, but you could clearly see that both had more powerful processors (and damn well they should, since they cost at least $100 more). I didn't get to see much of the PS3 in action; the game didn't take advantage of the motion-sensitive controller, and was essentially just a shinier version of any basketball game you could get on the PS2.
