#1146 Feeding: More Monologue

I really don't understand why some people feel the need to listen to music that's so loud that it causes physical pain to one's own ears. By which I'm referring to my upstairs neighbors, who, after a few drinks (which basically translates as "every night") feel that simply being able to hear their music is not enough. They must immerse their very essence in Sound. And by sound, I mean an angry man (I'm assuming, some form of gangster) yelling accusations in synch with someone getting into a fight with a bass drum.

Now, with music played like this the actual volume is more or less irrelevant; there's enough material between our floors to be able to play some pretty loud sounds without any real trouble. The problem is that bass (which, I had failed to realize, is essential for music appreciateion) shakes the walls, the floor, etc; turning my very room into a speaker for the above mentioned angry gangster. That is a weird feeling; putting your head under your pillow to escape the rhythmic thumping sound, only to find that the sounds are emanating from the bed itself.

But I really shouldn't complain. A quick phonecall and they turned the music to a reasonable level (I could still hear it, but I could fall asleep, which was more than enough for me). Still, it just baffles me how people can find something so loud that it hurts my ears from a completely different floor to, not only be tolerable, but ideal.
