Hah! Had you going there.

So, the other day I was watching a video on Youtube of a man trying to out-eat a bear and, y'know, it made me really sad to think about eating competitions. No, not the morbid obesity and queasy stomach you get from seeing a whorf down 12 pounds of fried animal meat. No, I was feeling sympathetic that day and found myself thinking about how sad it is that we, as a nation, can afford to make a game out of seeing how much people can eat, while people out there are living in conditions where they spend all week just hoping, praying, that maybe, just maybe, perhaps by the end of the week they'll have something pass through their lips. We can afford to send a truckload of blueberry pies to Alabama to see how many Big Joe can cram down his talky-hole before his heart gives out, while other people have the conversation, "Well, yes, I do recall what food tastes like… vaguely…"

Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that we (and by "we" I mean, "Americans". I don't know how the rest of my readers' countries are faring) have enough food laying around that we can make a game out of seeing who can pound down the most the fastest, I'm just saying that some things seem a might bit more important to me in the long run.
