We have a fruit fly problem. To remedy this, we put out a glass of water with orange scented dish soap in it - the scent attracts them, then the soap makes them unable to escape the trap.

Theoretically. The traps have not picked up quite as many fruit flies as one would hope. Or perhaps we just have fewer fruit flies than we initially estimated and the traps are a bit over the top.
