Lots of green. Bright green. Bright green that hurts Ozone's eyes.

Today I'll talk about what seems to be the sequel to A Death in the Family, Under the Hood (Parts 1 & 2). Written back in 2005, Bruce Wayne discovers that he has lost his research and development for Wayne Enterprises. This adds to his problems, having to deal with Black Mask and the recent loss of Stephanie Brown, the fourth Robin. Then, out of nowhere, a new enemy appears under the Joker's old identity, the Red Hood.

Slowly, Black Mask loses his territory and dealers, as this new enemy has no problems with killing to get a point across. But he seems to be more out to control the drug dealings rather than make a profit. He gives more generous cuts than Black Mask and keeps his dealers away from kids.

After some investigation, Batman starts to get hunches about who this person may be. After further investigation, it turns out to be none other than the son he lost, Jason Todd. Conflicted about what to do, Batman allows Jason to finish off Black Mask's control of the city and kidnap the Joker, the story ending with Jason giving Batman the ultimatum: Shoot the Joker, or have Jason die again.

After reading stories on what Jason was like as a Robin, this I can see him doing. As the years went by, Jason escalated in his vicious beatings of criminals, so to me, it appeared he would kill one some day if he had never died. It was just the way he was going. And my prediction was correct.

At the end, when they talk about Jason's resurrection, it is questioned that maybe certain things to do with his coming back affected him. I just think that without Batman's training and supervision, he grew up how he wanted to and did things his way.

Good art, rather detailed, something you'd expect from today's comics. A few bits and pieces like Nightwing and Batman fighting Amazo seemed like filler, but then again these were released as monthly comics, so I guess it can't all be part of the one story.

Yeah, definitely go read.

Until next time
