I remember back in the day, when I first played Pokemon. The very first time you started up a new game, you were introduced to this senile old man, Professor Oak. He knew plenty about Pokemon, oh yes, and was the man to explain all about them before you started playing. But when it came to his own grandson and his "rival" ever since they were children… he drew a blank, and asked you your own name. Granted, it's a reason to follow in the old RPG standard of you making your own character name, but really you can always go straight to a default name.
Aside from following in that standard with a highly generic name, I decided this is a perfect opportunity to introduce a very interesting fact about our protagonist: He is a very forgettable character. He is so forgettable, the narrator (who is essentially telling a story of why this boy is so important) doesn't even remember our hero's name. In the vast field of heroes, he is just another face. I tend to play with this A LOT.
Not that there are many Heroes Saving The World in this series, he's just… a very forgettable one. And kinda dull. Which is why we have supporting characters, yay!
