Here's page 18 of Fusion #4, and Inkblot explains how his little device works.

As I mentioned before, I got the basic idea from "Spiral" by Koji Suzuki. "Spiral" is the second book in his "Ring" series (which the movie "The Ring" was based on) and takes a scientific turn in explaining the workings of the videotape and how it kills people. The physiology/biology of the book is true (in fact, many of the amino acid charts and such in the book were clearer than the reference material at my work–I edit a physiological journal), and the concept of images on a video beaming instructions into the brain that would cause DNA to begin creating a variation of Small Pox (which looks like a Greek alpha–hence naming it the Ring virus) is really cool (at least in my book). The idea of beaming instructions into the brain from an outside visual source was my jumping off point for Inkblot's staff.
