Okay, some of you sharp readers realized what Nuada just realized (with a cold sweat) on this page. However, Flash is still 1 step ahead of you. This page is what this chapter is named after: Poisoned Apples. There is a faceless, malicious intent behind the "gift" of mines that the dead man hoarded. Flash had already established in the previous chapter that the dead man was a poor commander, likely none too bright. Flash then reasoned that the dead man didn't realize the danger because he was given these mines, and taught how to use them; it wasn't his own expertise.

To clarify: The dead man with his head on a pike was the same man who was ranting in the hologram.
