I'm the type of person who will try to find some tricks to make life easier for me. I call it building my toolbox. In this case since I know my knowledge of coloring is pretty limited, I tried an idea I had for a while now, and that's finding a photo you like and borrow the color palette from it. I learned this trick from a few different youtube videos from really great colorists. And that's what I did here! I googled girl in candlelight, and just took colors from it.

I think it worked ok, and learned a lot from it. It is a moderate success. I don't think I'm there yet with coloring, and there's still huge gaps in my knowledge, but I've made some progress.

Lettering… y'know for years now, I've just been doing it the same way, and just been lettering without much of a technique or thought. The important thing is that it looked ok. But any technical discipline whether it be lettering, drawing, coloring… it's all about systems. The more systems you remember, the more you can build your technique and make it consistent. This page I finally figured out lettering is at it's base about a straight line and the letter C! The letter S is just two Cs and voila! you have an S! I still enjoy lettering. When I tried lettering with a font, It annoyed me so much, because I had to fight really hard to get the font and word balloons to look how I liked it. It felt like work. Lettering it by hand just makes me feel like it's close to how I want without draining all my willpower.

What's cool about system's though is that it's really fun to break them. It's fun to break them, because you usually learn something interesting when you think about the results.

Haven't made much progress past next page. It's still the last page in the queue. Argh! Gotta get outta this funk and get my butt in gear! Yarr!
