This serves two purposes–it shows what a manipulative bastard Soul really is. From Soul/Lore's point of view, it also serves to implicate Lafferty in someone's death. He thinks it'll increase his hold on Lafferty–that Flickerflame's too deep in this to back out now, that he's crossed the rubicon. From Flickerflame's point of view, it's the exact opposite. This is the proverbial last straw. Lafferty would do a lot of things that are…morally questionable—but murder, especially being TRICKED into murdering someone, is not one of them. He's not only sickened by the action—burning to death is NOT pleasant…but in his unwitting part in it. His reaction is horror, mixed with a petty feeling. He's been a con man before—but he's just been outconned BIG-time. Nothing infuriates a con man more than being made a patsy–and it's dangerous to out-trick a Trickster. Lafferty hates himself for that petty feeling. He knows that is small beer, next to the murder. But that's there also. He's repulsed, he's horrified, and he'll never, ever, trust Lore/Soul again. EVER. It's war now, between those two.
