Beastbeauty is a chimera, a hybrid between two forms, when she changes. In her feline form, she still has her mind, her humanoid form (and hands, most especially)–coupled with a feline predator's speed, strength, night vision, and hearing. She has the best of both forms.
Flickerflame has a greater range of forms—any living thing (or things) up to one hundred sixty pounds—but he has limitations.
Flickerflame, when he changes, can usually remember his purpose, but it's a memory. An animal's brain isn't large enough for complex thoughts and plans. He usually sets a time limit on his transformations, to change back, but while he's in animal-form, if he's distracted by pain or another emotion, the animal part can take over. He'll still change back when the time limit expires, but temporarily losing his self to the animal who's form he's using is always a danger.
