Yeah, I know what a Parsi is. I just thought it unlikely that LAFFERTY knew.
I hope it was clear that the Parsi's use the fire as a symbol and a focus. They don't worship fire, as some early explorers in India ignorantly thought, anymore than Christians worship two pieces of wood stuck together. They worship what the cross represents. Similarly, the Parsis use fire as a symbol for their worship.
There are some advantages to making Vigilant a Parsi, rather than a Hindu. The Parsis worked well with the British, since they didn't have the same caste restrictions most Hindus had in the 19th century. Also, I find it interestingly ironic that Vigilant was brought up in a religion and community that regards fire as a holy symbol…

We'll be focusing on Vigilant's backstory, the next couple of updates. The curse the grandfather is afraid of is Vigilant's powers, of course—but it wasn't superstition. As you'll see, his powers have proved deadly for his family.
