In case you were wondering, Tahve isn't stupid. He's just young and inexperienced. A lot of humans also don't know the difference between termites and flying ants. And they also don't care.

Termites don't really have that color of goo. I just made it that way because I like smearing vividly colored bug goo all over the place. In the comic, that is.

In the second panel, when Tahve says they mobbed him, what happened was this (from a termite website): During feeding, termites release a chemical signal from an exocrine gland that stimulates nest mates to feed at the same site, thereby ensuring a rapid and efficient exploitation of the food source - which in this case was Tahve's pine bark armor. And that's probably more than you ever wanted to know about the feeding habits of termites.
